TODAY’S TRADEMARK – PLAYBOY
Playboy is an American magazine aimed at men, men’s lifestyle and entertainment, formerly in print and currently online. It was founded in Chicago by Hugh Hefner and his associates in 1953. It is the first magazine to present female nudity and sexually oriented material in a relatively sophisticated format.
For the very first issue of the magazine, the founder of Playboy, Hugh Hefner used a previously unpublished nude calendar photograph of Marilyn Monroe. The logo of Playboy’s parent company depicting “Playboy Enterprises, Inc.” is the head of a rabbit in a tuxedo bow tie, which eventually became one of the most-recognized trademarks in the world.
Although, Playboy is the most famous for its photo spreads, it also publishes articles and fiction, both of which were frequently of high quality. The periodical of Playboy emphasized on interviews with celebrities and others newsworthy persons. It is also well known for the “Playboy Philosophy” articulated by Hefner himself in the pages of the magazine advocating complete personal freedom in all things.
The trademark of “Playboy” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0676726 on April 7, 1959.
