TODAY’S TRADEMARK – PIZZA HUT

Pizza hut, formally known as Pizza Hut, Inc. is a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., is also the largest pizza restaurant company in the world in terms of both the number of outlets and percentage of market share that it holds. Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 by brothers Dan Carney and Frank Carney in their hometown of Wichita, Kansas.

In 1980s, Pizza Hut faced challenges, as the company faced heightened competition from emerging nation restaurant food-chains such as Little Caesar’s Domino’s Pizza Inc. and Pizza Express. A year later, in 1959, Dick Hassur opened the first franchise unit of Pizza Hut in Topeka, Kansas. As a part of company’s strategy and long-life goal of providing quality products conveniently, Pizza Hut began accepting orders through credit cards in 1997 to facilitate din-in, carry-out and delivery services. Pizza Hut became the first chain of restaurants to accept credits nationally.

The trademark of “Pizza Hut” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0729847 on April 10, 1962.
