The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is a leading gun rights organization in the United States. It-s a gun rights advocacy group based in the United States. NRA was founded in New York State in 1871 as a governing body for the sport of shooting with pistols and rifles. The NRA was founded t advance rifle marksmanship, the modern NRA continues to teach firearm safety and competency.

The NRA’s important activities include highly effective political lobbying and campaigning against virtually any legislative proposal for the control of firearms. It consistently characterized such measures as infringements of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and gave threat to individual liberty. By the early 21st century, NRA claimed a membership of nearly five million target shooters, hunters, gun collectors, police, gunsmiths and other gun enthusiasts.
