TODAY’S TRADEMARK – CLARKS

Clark is a British shoe manufacturer and retailer, established by Cyrus Clark in 1825 in the village of Street, Somerset, England. The company’s headquarters remain there till this day. The very first Clarks shoe was invented by James Clark while working at a tannery. He came up with the idea to create slippers from sheepskin off-cuts. The sheepskin slipper, named the ‘Brown Petersburgh’, became a huge success. Its unique design quickly gained popularity, and within a few years, it was gracing feet across the country. By 1842, the company was selling an average of 1000 pairs a month.
