The American Lung Association is a voluntary, non-profit association ensuring the prevention, cure, and control of all different types of lung diseases like emphysema asthma, tuberculosis, lung cancer, etc. The association was founded in 1904 for Studying and preventing the spread of Tuberculosis. Due to the gradual decline in Tuberculosis cases, the association shifted its focus to various other forms of lung diseases and finally, in 1973 it got the name American Lung Association.
It emphasizes four strategic imperatives:
1.    To defeat lung cancer,
2.    Improving the air we breathe,
3.    Reducing the burden of lung diseases on individuals and their families, and
4.    Eradicating tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.
The American Lung Association achieves its goals by promoting various community services and by providing public health educations that educate the general public to know more about the causes and the possible precautions one can take to reduce the probability of one getting lung disease. It is funded by various contributions from individual donors, corporations, founders, and government agency grants.

The trademark of this company was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 1227878 on February 15, 1983.
