TODAY’S TRADEMARK – 3 MUSKETEERS
The 3 Musketeers candy bar was first introduced in 1932 by the Mars Company as their third candy creation. The original package contained three different flavoured pieces of candy – chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. However, during World War II, sugar rationing forced the company to make a tough decision. As it was too expensive to produce all three flavours, they decided to make only one. From 1945 onwards, the candy bar was sold as a single bar made with only chocolate nougat, a tradition that continues to this day.
The brand name “3 Musketeers” was registered with EUIPO on 23rd July 1998, with the serial number 000001470. The mark is considered a word mark and falls under classes 29, 30, and 32 of the international classification of goods and services for the purposes of the registration of marks. Interestingly, outside of the United States and Canada, the candy bar is known as a Milky Way.
