TRADEMARK OF THE WEEK – ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

Rotary International is an international service organization with purpose to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-religious and non-political organization. The members of Rotary International are known as Rotarians.

Rotary International was originally founded as the Rotary Club of Chicago in 1905 by American attorney Paul P. Harris. The name “Rotary” was proposed by Harris because meetings were to be held in rotation in members.  Rotary International comprises the individual Rotary Clubs; Rotary International is an umbrella organization that coordinates Rotary’s global programs and its initiatives.

Rotary International promotes service projects in six broad areas: promoting peace, providing clean water, saving mothers and children through accessible health care and other services, fighting disease, supporting basic education and literacy and growing local economies. By the early 21st century, Rotary International has more than 35,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographic areas, representing a membership of over 1.2 million Rotarians.

The trademark of “Rotary International” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0705081 on September 27, 1960.
