Lithium Energy Japan was established in 2007 by GS Yuasa Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation with the aim of developing, manufacturing and marketing lithium-ion batteries for automotive and industrial use.

Mass production began in 2009 for the Mitsubishi Motors “i-MiEV,” the world’s first mass-produced electric vehicle, and the company is also a supplier for the Mitsubishi Motors Eclipse Cross Plug-in Hybrid EV (PHEV).
