The American multinational mass media and entertainment giant Viacom Inc., in its second iteration, is primarily focused on cinema and television. It was founded on December 31, 2005, along with the second CBS Corporation, as one of the two businesses that replaced the previous Viacom.
Viacom Media Networks, run by the second Viacom, allowed it to reach about 700 million subscribers across roughly 160 countries and control about 170 networks. In addition to holding a 30% ownership position in the Rainbow S.p.A. animation studio, Viacom’s studio holdings included Paramount Pictures, MTV Films, and Nickelodeon Animation Studio. The second Viacom, with its headquarters located at One Astor Plaza in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, was the ninth-largest media business in the world by revenue.
On August 13, 2019, Viacom announced the completion of its second merger with CBS Corporation. On December 4, the merger was finalised, creating ViacomCBS (now Paramount Global).
Worldwide entertainment brands across multiple platforms are mostly owned by Viacom. The corporation engages with billions of people worldwide through studio production, live events, digital content, cinema, television, and more.
