The University filed for the trademark with the USPTO on March 16, 1999 and was assigned registration number 2231392. Their mark was first used in December 1978.
Originally known as Florida Technological University, UCF was established in 1963 and began offering classes in 1968. Its goal was to supply STEM-trained professionals to support the expanding US space program at the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, located on Florida’s Space Coast.
In 1978, Florida Tech changed its name to the University of Central Florida to reflect its academic focus widening beyond engineering and technology.
With its main campus located in unincorporated Orange County, Florida, the University of Central Florida (UCF) is a public research university. It is included in the Florida State University System. More than 401,245 degrees, including more than 60,000 graduate and professional degrees, have been granted by UCF since its establishment. The university’s academic seal shows Pegasus, which “symbolises the university’s vision of limitless possibilities,” and its official colours are gold and black.
