TODAY’S TRADEMARK – TRUE NORTH
The New York State Franchise Oversight Board State Agency owns the trademark “True North,” which was given to them in honour of W. Deering Howe’s True North, the victor of the 1945 Fall Highweight Handicap. The True North Handicap was introduced on July 9th, 1979. In 1982, the incident was rated as Category III, but in 1985, it was upgraded to Grade II. Every year in early June at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, an American Thoroughbred horse race for horses four years old and older is run over a course of six and a half furlongs on dirt.
The True North mark was first used in 1979. It is a Standard Character mark with the serial number 78918828 that was registered on May 1, 2007 bearing registration no. 3237177. The New York Racing Association Inc. corporation of New York served as the Registrant. It was a service mark that was registered for entertainment purposes involving horse races.
