Today’s Trademark-TIANFU COLA
The Chongqing-based company was China’s largest soft drink manufacturer in the 1980s and 1990s, with a stronghold of 70% of the soft drink industry.
Tianfu Cola was sold outside of China and began to gain popularity in Russia and the United States. In 1994, the company formed a joint venture with Pepsi, an American cola company, but it did not succeed.
Tianfu Coke’s market share had decreased to 1% by 2005.
The failure was attributed to the decision to stop producing Tianfu Cola in order to make room for Pepsi-Cola. Pepsi bought the company’s interest in the joint venture in 2006. Pepsi, on the other hand, declined to return Tianfu’s production rights. Tianfu successfully sued Pepsi in 2010, accusing the American company of stealing the secret formula for its beverage. The drink will continue to be made with Tianfu’s natural traditional Chinese medicine herbal recipe, which was created in collaboration with the Sichuan Research Institute for Chinese Medicine. The trademark of this company was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 1581841 on 1 April, 1988.
