Temple University (Temple or TU) is a public research university affiliated with the state of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia. Russell Conwell, a Baptist minister, founded it in 1884. It was renamed Temple College of Philadelphia on May 12, 1888. By 1907, the institution’s institutional status had been revised and it had been incorporated as a research university.
