The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State or PSU) is a public state-related land-grant research university with campuses and facilities spread across the state of Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1855 as the Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania and became the state’s only land-grant university in 1863. Penn State is now a major research university that focuses on teaching, research, and public service. Its instructional mission encompasses undergraduate, graduate, professional, and continuing education programmes delivered in-person and online. In addition to its land-grant designation, it is also a part of a research consortium for sea-grant, space and sun-grant grant, and is one of four such universities Cornell University, Oregon State University and University of Hawaiien in Mānoa. It has two law schools: Penn State Law, which is located on the University Park campus, and Dickinson Law, which is located in Carlisle. Hershey is the College of Medicine.
