Marriott International, Inc. is an American multinational company that operates in hospitality business. Marriott is the largest hotel chain in the world.
The company was founded in 1927 by J. Willard Marriott and his wife Alice Marriott. The chairman of the company is their son, Bill Marriott and Marriott family retains majority ownership of Marriott International. Marriot International Inc., was formed in 1993 as a result of the spilt of Marriott Corporation into two companies: Marriot Corporation (Hotels & Resorts) and Marriott International, Inc. (franchises and manages properties).
In 1984, the first JW Marriott, named in the honour of founder J. Willard Marriott, was opened in Washington, D.C. In 1995, Marriott was the first hotel company that offered online reservations. Soon in 1997, Marriott doubled its presence overseas by acquiring Renaissance Hotel Group. Marriott has around 30 brands with more than 5,700 properties offering more than 1.1 million rooms in over 110 countries and territories. The company is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, United States.
The trademark of “Marriott” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0899900 on September 29, 1970.
