Game Informer is a monthly magazine. It mainly focuses on American video game featuring articles, news, strategies, and reviews on video games and related consoles. It was started in August 1991 when video game retailer FuncoLand started publishing an internal newsletter. As of June 30, 2017, it is the fifth most popular magazine by issue.The publication is now owned and operated by GameStop, which bought FuncoLand in 2000. Game Informer has focused more on the Internet since the 2010s. Since then, Game Informer has been an integral part of GameStop’s loyalty program, PowerUp Rewards, which gives subscribers access to special content on the official website. Game Informer Online came into action in August 1996 and featured daily news updates and articles. Justin Leeper and Matthew Kato were hired as full-time web editors in November 1999. As part of GameStop’s purchase of the magazine, that original GameInformer.com site was shut down in January 2001. Both Leeper and Kato were eventually inducted into the magazine’s editorial team.
