TODAY’S TRADEMARK – DAIRY QUEEN
International Dairy Queen, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, owns Dairy Queen (DQ), an American chain of soft serve ice cream and fast-food restaurants. Orange Julius is also owned by International Dairy Queen, Inc., which previously owned Karmelkorn and Golden Skillet Fried Chicken. DQ opened its first location in Joliet, Illinois. Sherb Noble ran it, and it first opened for business on June 22, 1940. It offered a wide range of frozen treats, including soft serve ice cream. John Fremont “J.F.” “Grandpa” McCullough and his son Alex invented the soft-serve formula in 1938. They persuaded Sherb Noble, a long-time friend and faithful client, to sell the product in his ice cream shop in Kankakee, Illinois. The company’s stores are operated under several brands, all of which bear the distinctive Dairy Queen logo and serve the company’s signature soft-serve ice cream (along with the trademark restaurants were “Brazier” locations with a second floor for storage, distinguished by their red mansard roofs).
The trademark of this company was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 1532859
on May 15, 1990.
