TODAY’S TRADEMARK – COUNT MOTORCYCLES
The Count Motorcycles® safety campaign and the Count Motorcycles® game are trademarks of The Chop Shop, LLC. The Count Motorcycles® safety campaign was originally conceived as a replacement for the slogan “Watch for Motorcycles” and was shopped to various motorcycle safety organizations. The Motorcycle Association of New York State (MANYS) commissioned the project and trademarked the phrase to headline a large awareness campaign for 2002.
The Count Motorcycles® slogan was conceived on I-95 in New York State in the year 2000 by Dave Accetta, an avid motorcyclist and producer at an advertising agency. Having working on the Ad Council’s “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk” campaign, Dave was inspired to use his talents to create a breakout campaign for motorcycle awareness. However, on September 11, 2001, Dave was in New York City during the World Trade Center attacks and, as a result, rejoined the Army Reserve. With a plan left behind for MANYS to implement, he was deployed to Iraq. While there he started crafting a point system for the Count Motorcycles® game using ideas that came to him while riding in convoy looking for IEDs.
Dave discovered upon his return to the U.S. in 2007 that MANYS had dissolved and his ideas were no longer being implemented. Using his re-enlistment bonus, he retrieved the trademark and started his company, Count Motorcycles LLC to launch his game.
The Trademark of this company was registered by The USPTO which has given the COUNT MOTORCYCLES trademark a serial number of 76236684 on Tuesday, July 15, 2003.
