Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S is a French high-speed luxury automobiles manufacturer and luxury brand for sports cars. Bugatti was founded in 1998 as a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group and headquartered in Molsheim, Alsace. Since 2000, Bugatti brand has officially existed as Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., abbreviated to Bugatti.
In 1998, Volkswagen AG took over the design and naming rights to Bugatti from Italian businessman Romano Artioli, who produced supercars such as the EB 110 and EB 112 with the Bugatti SpA in Italy between 1997 and 1998. Volkswagen designed the final “Bugatti” concept, the EB 18/4 GT. Bugatti introduced the exclusive Bugatti concept, the EB 18/4 GT at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show.
In 2000, Bugatti introduced a new engine concept, EB 16/4Veyron concept car which is a 16-cylinder car with an engine output of 736kW and 803-liter engine with fur turbochargers. Veyron, when introduced was the most potent and fastest supercar ever built. In 2015, Bugatti proudly announced that the successor to the Veyron would be called the Chiron with an increased power of 1,103kW and 1,600 Newton meters of torque which reaches 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds from standstill. Bugatti continued excelling in building high-performance cars with Divo Hypercar, the La Voiture Noire (The Black Car) and the Centodieci (Italian for 110).
The trademark of “Bugatti” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 1169043 on September 15, 1981.
