Barnes & Noble Booksellers is an American bookseller. The company’s headquarters are at 122 Fifth Avenue in New York City. Barnes & Noble began in 1886 as a bookstore called Arthur Hinds & Company. It is the bookseller largest number of retail outlets in the United States. It is a Fortune 1000 company. The company operates 627 retail stores in all 50 U.S. states as of March 7, 2019.  The company was acquired by Elliott Management Corporation in August 2019. In March 2020, Barnes & Noble announced that they would temporarily stop selling magazines. Moreover it also announced that it will temporarily close 400 of their 620 stores due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Barnes & Noble Education acquired Loud Cloud Systems which is a digital platform and analytics provider to clients in higher education and enlarged their Digital Student Solutions online services. Barnes & Noble Education acquired PaperRater in 2018 to help students write papers and identify plagiarism.
