Xerox, formally known as Xerox Corporation is a major American Corporation that was a pioneer in office technology. Xerox was the first to manufacture xerographic plain-paper copiers. It is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut.
The company was founded in 1906 as the Haloid company, a manufacturer and distributor of photographic paper. In 1947, the company obtained the commercial rights to xerography, an imaging process invented by Chester Carlson. In 1958, the company was renamed as the Haloid Xerox Company. The process made photographic copies onto plain and uncoated paper brought so much success and name recognition that the company had to wage a continuing campaign to prevent the trademark Xerox from being a generic term. In 1961, the company changed its name to Xerox Corporation. The company expanded into other information products and publishing businesses and developed word-processing machines, laser printers, Ethernet and the software and systems support required for document production.
The trademark of “Xerox” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0957267 on April 17, 1973.
