TODAY’S TRADEMARK – FINLANDIA
The Company BROWN-FORMAN FINLAND LTD. filed for the Trademark ‘FINLANDIA’ for their Vodka with the USPTO on March 27, 1979 and was assigned registration number 1115781. The mark has been in use since 24th September, 1970.
One account states that George Garvin Brown, a young pharmaceutical salesman in Louisville, and his partner John Forman founded the business in 1870. According to a separate narrative, Brown began the business by himself and added his accountant as a partner in 1890. To reflect the collaboration, the name of the business was changed to Brown–Forman and Company in 1890. The corporation did well in spite of the American temperance movement. One of six national permits to manufacture medicinal whiskey was given to Brown-Forman when Prohibition in the US began.
