The Toronto Maple Leafs, based in Toronto, are a professional ice hockey team that competes in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 1917 and initially operated as Toronto under the name Toronto Arenas. The club was later renamed the Toronto St. Patricks in 1919 under new ownership. In 1927, the team was purchased by Conn Smythe and subsequently renamed the Maple Leafs.

With thirteen Stanley Cup championships to their name, they are only surpassed by their primary rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, who have won 24 championships. Their most recent championship win dates back to 1967, making it the longest drought between championships in the NHL, spanning 48 seasons.
