TODAY’S TRADEMARK – SAM JONES BBQ
The Wordmark SAM JONES WOOD-FIRED N.C. WHOLE HOG BBQ was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 5160012 on March 14, 2017.
The Wordmark was registered under Class 30 mainly containing Barbeque sauce, Cooking sauces, Dipping sauces, Spice rubs. The trademark first came into use on November 10, 2015. It is famously considered as a three generational barbecue-cooking business. Current owner of the mark and the goods/services is Sam Jones. However, it was the late Pete Jones, who opened the Legendary Skylight Inn at age 17 where Sam has been involved since a very early age.
Skylight was founded in the summer of 1947 on fresh whole hogs being cooked over wood the same way many generations before Pete did it. It was a very unique way to make a dish but their brand was still not registered as a trademark. However, it didn’t stop them incorporating the Skylight Inn as a well known platform in barbeque dishes. The other achievements includes, National Geographic proclaiming Pete Jones’ Skylight Inn, which ultimately resulted in visits from then President Regan and Vice President Bush. Although Pete passed away in February 2006, his legacy and mark in Barbecue is still going parallel. As soon as Skylight Inn BBQ was handed to his grandson Sam Jones, the brand was renamed and trademarked as “SAM JONES”.
