TODAY’S TRADEMARK – COCA-COLA
Coca-Cola, or Coke is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by the Coca-Cola Company. It was originally marketed as a temperance drink and was intended as a patent medicine, invented in the late 19th century by John Stith Pemberton.
Coca-Cola’s name refers to two of its original ingredients i.e., coca leaves and kola nuts. The current formula of remains a trade secret, however, a variety of reported experimental creations and recipes have been published. The Coca-Cola Company produces concentrated form of the drink which is then sold to licensed Coca-Cola bottlers throughout the world. The licensed bottlers, who hold exclusive territory contracts with the company, produced the finished product in cans and bottles from the concentrate, in combination with filtered and sweeteners.
The Coca-Cola Company has on occasion introduced other cola drinks under the Coke name such as Diet Coke, Caffeine-Free Coca-Cola, Diet Coke Caffeine-Free, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola Cherry, Coca-Cola Vanilla and other special versions with lemon, lime and coffee.
The trademark of “Coca-Cola” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0696147 on April 12, 1960.
