TODAY’S TRADEMARK – RONALD MCDONALD
Ronald McDonald is a clown character and a well-known mascot of the world-wide McDonald’s fast-food restaurant chain. On television commercials, the clown inhabited a fantasy world called McDonaldland. He had adventures with his friends Mayor McCheese, the Hamburglar, Birdie the Early Bird, Grimace and the Fry Kids.
Many people have made full-time appearances in the costume of Ronald McDonald and visited children in hospitals and attending regular events. There are Ronald McDonald Houses, where parents can stay overnight and visit sick children in nearby chronic care facilities.
By 2003, the McDonaldland was droped from McDonald’s advertising but Ronald McDonald continued to appear. In 2014, McDonald’s announced that Ronald would have a whole new look and new outfits. Because of his eminence, Ronald McDonald had become a symbol of not just of McDonald’s but of the fast-food industry in the US as a whole. Ronald McDonald has his presence in several books, animations, video games and film.
The trademark of “Ronald McDonald” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 100719 on April 1, 1975.
