Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a specific form of silent, mantra meditation and the organizations that constitute the Transcendental Meditation movement is led by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It is believed that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi created and introduced the TM technique and TM movement in India in the mid-1950s. Advocates of TM claim that the technique promotes a state of relaxed awareness, stress relief, and access to higher states of consciousness, as well as physiological benefits such as reducing the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.

It is worldwide recognised movement. In the United States, the Transcendental Meditation technique is taught by Maharishi Foundation USA, a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. All revenues from course fees go entirely to support the organization’s educational and charitable initiatives in the U.S. and around the world.
