TODAY’S TRADEMARK – THE SQUIRE

The squire is a luscious, velvety dark red rose which was bred by famed English hybridizer, David Austin in 1976. It is a cross of The Knight x Chateau de clos Vougeo. David Austin indicates that “A cross with the old Hybrid Tea ‘Chateau de Clos Vougeot’ (Pernet- Ducher 1908) yielded ‘The Squire’, which has proved an excellent parent and responsible for most of our best red varieties.” This rose is also a star in its own right.

The plant blooms continuously throughout the growing season, and it matures into a nicely rounded, well-behaved shrub with an upright manner, growing to about 4 feet tall and 1.5m wide. It is a good example of a fully double rose variety and, again, highlights how important fragrance is to rose gardeners. This rose is recommended by the Rose Society of South Australia.

The trademark of this company was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 1630247 on January 1, 1991.
