TODAY’S TRADEMARK – MISS WORLD
Miss World is the oldest international beauty pageant competition created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley. The first Miss World competition held in 1951 as a bikini context as part of the Festival of Britain.
The pageant was originally organized as a Pageant for the Festival of Britain but Eric Morley decided to make the Miss World pageant competition as an annual event. In 1959, the BBC started broadcasting the pageant and the pageant’s popularity grew with the advent of television. In the 1970’s and early 80’s, more than 18 million people watched the pageant competition, however, in the late 80’s, it lost its popularity and became an “increasingly unfashionable” pageant event.
The Miss World Organization owns and organizes the annual Miss World Finals. Miss World is franchised in more than over 100 countries. Founder Eric Morley died in 2000, since then, his wife, Julia, succeeded as the chairwoman of the Miss World Organisation.
The trademark of “Miss World” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0877221 on September 16, 1969.
