TODAY’S TRADEMARK – AMERICAN TREE FARM SYSTEM
The American Tree Farm System (ATFS) is the largest and oldest sustainable tree farm system in the U.S., internationally recognized and meeting strictly third-party certification standards. It is a program of the American Forest Foundation’s Center for Family Forests and is committed to sustaining forests, healthy habitats and watershed through the power of private stewardship.
Since 1941, ATFS has educated and recognized the commitment of the private family forest landowners in the U.S. ATFS is an integration of 74,000 family forest owners sustainably managing over 19 million acres of forestland. Tree Farmers share a remarkable commitment to conserve soil, to protect wildlife habitat and watersheds, and to provide recreation of their communities while producing wood for the states. They hold the key to the kinds of forest, forest resources and forest activities, the future generations of Americans will enjoy.
As a program of the American Forest Foundation (AFF), ATFS focuses on the long-term sustainability f America’s forests in ecological and economical terms. Every year ATFS hosts a National Tree Farmer Convention (NTFC) and awards an individual or family with the National Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year award.
