TRADEMARK OF THE WEEK – TACO BELL

Taco-bell is an American-based chain of Restaurants headquartered in Irvine, California, U.S. It was founded in 1962 by American Entrepreneur Glen Bell and now has the chain more than 7,000 locations and over 350 franchises worldwide.  Soon in 1970, Taco Bell went public with a total of 325 restaurants. In 1978, PepsiCo Inc. purchased 868 Taco Bell restaurants for about $ 125 million. This transaction began Taco Bell’s shift from a regional hit to a national sensation.

In the 1980’s and 90’s, Taco Bell started introducing new menu items and restaurant concepts while also expanding its marketing and branding efforts. It adopted innovative market strategies such as promotions tied to Tim Burton’s Batman movie, the launch of “value menu” in 1990, the introduction of popular “Taco Bell Express” (a small Taco Bell with mostly quick and cheap option) in 1991.

These aggressive promotional efforts, have made Taco Bell an accessible and publicly popular fast-food restaurant chain in the global fast-food market.

The trademark of “Taco-Bell” was registered in USPTO bearing registration number 0856207 on September 03, 1968.
