TODAY’S TRADEMARK – MIKE AND THE MAD DOG
Mike and the Mad Dog was an American radio show. It was hosted by Mike Francesca and Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo. It was originally aired from September 1989 to August 2008 in afternoons on WFAN in New York City. Francesa and Russo were featured in the show talking about sports and taking phone calls from listeners. The show was simulcast on television on the YES Network from 2002. On the radio, the show was simulcast beginning 2007 on WQYK in Tampa, Florida and from 2004 until 2007 on WROW in Albany, New York. On June 22, 2008, Newsday sports columnist Neil Best reported that Francesa and Russo were considering quitting their radio show. Reports indicated that the relationship between the Radio duos had deteriorated by spring 2008 and was the likely cause of the split. Although Russo’s contract with WFAN was extended to October 2009, the status of the Francesa’s contract was not clear. While the Mike and the Mad Dog program has been a success, the duo had many disagreements and things did not go well at first. Neither of them was happy about the arrangement, and each felt that he deserved his own show.
