Today’s Trademark – BARNEYS NEW YORK
Barneys New York Inc. was founded in New York City in the year 1923. It was an American luxury department store which introduced major luxury brands like Armani, Azzedine Alaïa, Comme des Garçons, Christian Louboutin, Gregory Herman and Ermenegildo Zegna to the US market. To introduce a new line of jewellery and accessories, Barneys used live butterflies in 2018 asking customers and employees to interact with monarch butterflies. It was reported by PETA that many dead and dying butterflies were languishing around the display area, behind plants and in plant beds. As an apology to PETA, Barneys made a donation and banned the use of live butterflies from any future promotions. In 1993, Barneys opened its first departmental store outside Manhattan in Chicago. After that in the year 1994 he opened another large store in Beverly Hills, California. In the year 2019, the Chicago store closed. In August 2019, Barneys New York filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 and closed 15 of its 22 stores which included flagship stores in Las Vegas, Chicago and Seattle. In November 2019, Barneys brand name was taken control by Authentic Brands Group and it was licensed to Saks Fifth Avenue.
