Trademark of the Week – JACK RUSSELL TERRIER CLUB Of AMERICA (JRTCA)
The Jack Russell Terrier Club of America (JRTCA) was founded in 1976 as the United States’ National Breed Club and Registry for the Jack Russell Terrier. The Jack Russell Terrier United World Federation (JRTUWF) is a global association of Jack Russell Terrier clubs committed to preserving the working Jack Russell Terrier. The JRTCA and its registry were established with the goal of maintaining and preserving the distinctive characteristics and working heritage of this great little terrier, and they are still working toward that goal today. The Club has long been adamantly opposed to the Jack Russell Terrier being recognised by every kennel club or all-breed registry. It is feared that recognition could jeopardise the Jack Russell’s long-term survival as the sound, intelligent working terrier it has been for over a century.
The Natural Hunting Certificate Below Ground in the Field, the Sporting Certificate, and the Trial Certificate are the three forms of certificates issued by the JRTCA for working. The highest certificate awarded by the JRTCA is the Natural Hunting Certificate Below Ground in the Field. The JRTCA’s Sporting Certificate is given to Jack Russells who have successfully hunted non-ferocious or above-ground prey such as squirrels, rodents, and other small mammals. At a sanctioned trial, Jack Russells who receive a perfect score in the Open Class of the Go-to-Ground Division are awarded the Trial Certificate.
