U S Open championship is also known as the United States Open Championship. Out of the four major championship it ranks three and has its name in the official schedule of both PGA Tour and European Tour. It is the open national championship of gold which is held annually in United States. On October 4, 1895, the first U.S Open was played. It was played at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island on a nine-hole course. The winner of this was a 21 year old English man Horace Rawlins. Out of a prize fund of $335 he received $150 along with a $50 gold medal. The Open Championship Cup trophy was won by his club which was presented by the USGA. Till 1911 the tournament was won by experienced British players when John J. McDermott became the first native born American winner. Gradually American golfers began to win regularly the tournament and evolved to become one of the major four.
